Saturday, October 29 2011, 9:00am - 1:00pm

LLELA - University of North Texas, Make a difference day (VH)

Third of 3 volunteer events in October, 2011.  Others are on October 27 and 28.

LLELA = Lake Lewisville Environmental Learning Area

Objective: Work with approximately 100 volunteer students from the University of North Texas to plant grass inside the Bison range. Volunteers will arrive around 9 AM.

Master Naturalists from Elm Fork, Blackland Prairie and North Texas chapters are requested to function as leaders to work with the volunteers on the best methods to install the plants so they will have a chance to survive the current drought conditions. Ensure that teams stay busy and make effective use of the time allotted for this project.

Teams will be assembled so that coverage can involve multiple areas for plantings. It is estimated there will be about 100 plants per spot and 10 spots. We would like to have one Master Naturalist per team to provide leadership, answer questions and make sure plants are inserted correctly.

Plants will be taken from a central staging area and moved to the various selected spots. Holes to be dug, plants inserted in the ground, watered and insert flag markers. Empty pots will collected and returned to the staging area.

Attire - Shirt, Long pants, hiking boots or work shoes, gloves, hat, sunscreen and water.
