BioBlitz#1 - Count Species in Irving
Saturday, April 05 2008, 8:00am - 2:00pm

Dr. Marcy Brown Marsden has advised us that the City of Irving, Irving's Park Board, as well as our Urban Biologist, Brett Johnson, with TPWD, are joining to host a Bio Blitz Invitational event at Bird's Fort Park, Campion Trail in Irving on Saturday, April 5th.  The BioBlitz is a race against time to identify as many living things as possible.  Birds, insects, plants, mammals - all are there to be counted by volunteers to help us learn more about our natural world.  We need  5-20 "nature experts" (volunteers) to help them guide teams from various Irving recreation centers schools and scouting groups as they work on their goal of counting the species found at Campion Trail. Each nature expert will help the children identify the species they find, and help encourage them in their search for species.  I was informed that the children will have id sheets for the species they will be looking for, so you only need to be knowledgeable like a Master Naturalist.  However, if you are unsure about the nature expert position, they also need additional volunteers to help them run the counting and to guide teams to their search locations.

To be a nature expert for this event, contact Marcy Brown Marsden, at 972-721-5245, 214-492-9409, or at mebrown@udallas.edu to receive more information.  The volunteer hours for this activity can be charged to support for TPWD activities.  All volunteers need to be there at 8:00 am.  Bird's Fort Park is located at 5756 Riverside Drive. (Riverside Drive used to be O'Connor but it was changed fairly recently to Riverside, as you cross Northwest Hwy going north on O'Connor.)  See attached BioBlitz request for volunteers.
