Texas Tree Climbing Championships
Friday-Saturday, May 21-22,

Texas Tree Climbing Event to be Held in Plano, May 21-22, 2010

Bob Woodruff Park in Plano, TX will be the site of the 27th annual Texas Tree Climbing Competition. This event showcases the very best tree climbers in Texas, and it is a great way to learn about a fascinating and physically demanding profession called Arboriculture.  The park is home to a 500 year old bur oak and several other trees over 300 years old.

The two day competition is sponsored each year by the International Society of Arboriculture’s Texas chapter (ISAT), to determine who will represent the Texas chapter at the International Championship, being held in Chicago in August 2010. Approximately 30 tree care professionals from around the state will thrill spectators as they swing through the tree tops competing in several events testing their strength, agility, balance and “tree smarts.”

The ISAT Tree Climbing Championship is a tradition which honors the workhorses of the tree care industry – the climbers.  The events are designed to test their abilities as they ascend ropes and climb through the trees, performing a variety of work-and-rescue-simulating tasks as high as 80 feet. The top finishers then compete in a final round for the title of State Champion, and the coveted “Houser Cup,” named after Dallas Arboricultural Philanthropist Steve Houser.

The ISAT supports arborists and tree care professionals throughout Texas through science, education, and public awareness (www.isatexas.com).  The chapter sponsors and delivers many different trainings and workshops annually, and provides funds for research and scholarships.
