Discussing the August Chapter Meeeting
The purpose of the topic presented at the August chapter meeting was to start a discussion about land use in Texas. There wasn’t ample time to discuss in the ten minutes or so between the end of the presentation and the time we had to leave the building.
You may have moved on to another more congenial place than the Brookhaven parking lot where some discussions did break out. However, many members did want to express their opinions. We have just the place: the NTMN Members Facebook Page.
This is the link to our Members NTMN Facebook group.
If you are not already a member of the Facebook group, just ask to join. The administrators have to approve any member who wants to join.

The Announcements
The full set of August Announcements is attached. Download the entire announcements presentation here.
Highlights of a few of the things we are working on:
- Urban Wildlife Conference that Sam is presenting August 15 at the Richardson Convention Center. There are still spots available to attend and receive 5 Advanced Training (AT) hours. There are not more volunteer opportunities. Register here.
- Planning of the field excursions that will be offered at the Texas Master Naturalist 2019 Annual Conference in October is complete. The Getting Outside Guide covers the activities from Wednesday evening until Sunday afternoon.
- The Full Agenda includes both indoor lectures and field trips and is in chronological order. There are many activities led by North Texas Master Naturalists.
- The Agenda Matrix shows the entire conference in a spreadsheet matrix so you can plan your time.
- Managing the Silent Auction at the Annual Conference using automated bidding.
Details about these activities are in the announcements.
Survey for the Nominations for Committees and Officers
A brief survey will be sent to you in the next few days. We will use preferences to identify not only what you might be interested in doing for the chapter but also give you a chance to nominate yourself or another member for committee or board position. We will be able to grant you one volunteer hour (VH) when you take the survey.
Silent Auction
There are six committees working on the silent auction. What we need now is for members to signup and participate in the startup phase. With many master naturalists working on this project nobody will feel overwhelmed by all there is to do. Using the automated process the work is spread out over several months to collect and enter items into the system rather than waiting until the last two days.
This sign posted on the door of the Marsh Lane AgriLife Office today brought new meaning to a notice from the court. It looks like we may be moving the third week of October as we have always suspected.
We have plenty of time to pack things up. Fortunately the trunks that we are always moving in and out of storage are designed to be easy to move.
There will be a few more volunteer hours (VH) for some enterprising North Texas Master Naturalists.
Thank you for your participation,
Bruce Stewart
