Announcements from the June 2019 General Meeting

Highlights from June Announcements

Last Minute Announcements
Several announcements have come in the last two days which you may want to know about.

Download all of the announcements here.

Entomology Specialist
There will be a training session in Georgetown in September for twenty people which includes Master Naturalists, Master Gardeners, and other interested parties. Admission is on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested, you are encouraged to apply now.

The flyer for the Entomology Specialist program.

There is a better link in the announcements for this program. The original documents I had for this were inaccurate.

Texas/Oklahoma Pollinator Project
This summer volunteers are being recruited to assist with the Texas/Oklahoma Pollinator Project. Dr. Mike Merchant from the A&M AgriLife Exdtension Service on Coit Road in Dallas is seeking participants with an optional class to be held on June 18 in Garland.

Dr. Merchant’s letter describing the Pollinator Project.

The links in Mike Merchant’s letter are working so you can go to the documents mentioned in the letter.

Renaming the Buckeye Trail to the Fritz Trail
The Dallas City Council will meet on June 12 to discuss and hopefully approve renaming the Texas Buckeye Trail to the Ned and Genie Fritz Texas Buckeye Trail. Ben Sandifer, NTMN Honorary Member, and other members have been instrumental in preparing the documentation that the Dallas City Council will consider at the June 12 council meeting. Becky Rader, past NTMN president, is also a prime mover on this as a member of the Dallas Park and Recreation Board.

We would like to have a cheering section at the meeting and more importantly would like to have some members speak on behalf of the proposition.

The six page document includes the background on the trail, a map, and several pages of Whereas statements.

Meeting for the Silent Auction
We have a planning session scheduled at the Meadows Center on Monday, June 10 from 9 a.m to noon. We have selected a software program to help us manage the auction and now we have to get things underway to get things to sell at the fund raising auction at the Texas Mater Naturalist Annual Conference in October in Rockwall.

We hope you can attend on Monday.  If you are interested in working on the auction and want to be included in future activities, please sign in on the Keep Me Posted section so we can let you know.

Click here if you want to be kept up-to-date so you can participate later.

I will send out a more comprehensive message about NTMN activities for the TMN Annual conference which will include requests for presenters (due June 15), field excursions, and the silent auction. Thanks in advance for all your help on these activities.

Texas Master Naturalist listserv
If you were subscribed to the TMN listserv, you would have received the notice of the Texas/Oklahoma Pollinator Project and the Entomology Specialist training. Getting the notice when it is sent and not when I get around to sending it out can be helpful if you are trying to attend a competitive, first come first served, program like the  Entomology Specialist program. You may not feel that you need more email messages, but if you are interested in events that happen state-wide, this is best way to find out about them.

  • The TMN state office reports about events all around the state by email.
  • If you subscribe to their listserv you will get the announcements and not have to wait until they are announced by our chapter.
  • If you are concerned about getting a lot more email, there is an option to bundle the messages together and send them to you once a day.
  • For instructions about how to subscribe to the TMN listserv are in the announcements.
