Why is it important for MNs to perform and report volunteer hours?
- Master Naturalist is a volunteer organization. Teaching, serving the community and working in support of our natural resources is what we are all about.
- Keeping accurate records has always been a part of being a naturalist. Without some measure of our work, we would be unable to judge our impact on the ecosystems we seek to restore or the community we seek to educate.
- We are a government sponsored organization. Without accurate records to show how many people were impacted by our work, how many acres of land improved, or miles of trails enhanced, Texas Parks and Wildlife and Texas Cooperative Extension would not be able to quantify our work and demonstrate the need for our support.
What do I report?
- All volunteer activity that has been approved for Master Naturalist service, as well as travel time to and from the activity site.
- All advanced training activity that has been pre-approved. Training classes and field trips do not count as AT or VH service.
How do I find out about volunteer and advanced training activities?
- The calendar of activities can be found on the website: https://www.ntmn.org
- Come to chapter meetings where activities are advertised.
- Watch for and read Listserve announcements.
