Citizen Foresters

A community volunteer project to help restore and conserve our urban forest. It is sponsored by Dallas Park and Recreation Department and the Dallas Urban Forest Advisory Committee. Citizen Foresters are trained in basic tree knowledge and skills, including benefits of trees, tree identification, and planting and pruning. A fee is charged for the required training class.

Volunteers participate in community education, community outreach events, and community tree planting events.

2023 Activities – 8 volunteers with 67 hours of service performed

• Helped plant over 600 trees in 12 Dallas parks in conjunction with the Dallas Park & Recreation Branching Out program.
• Supported BranchOut Dallas program in November, distributing over 2,000 free trees to Dallas residents.
• Supported city of Dallas Emerald Ash Borer response using TreeKeeper application to record ash tree surveys for the city’s tree inventory.
• Held Community Forester Academy in the fall with 20 new students attending.
