An educational and research facility in the areas of water quality and supply, wildlife management, and wetland systems. The Wetland Center has partnered with regional school districts, wildlife and conservation organizations and research institutions.
NTMN supports the education programs’ focus on wetland and river ecosystems, bird migrations and water conservations. Volunteers participate in bird counts, trail walks, and education activities.
2023 Activities – 11 volunteers with 110 hours of service performed
- Provided assistance with front desk reception
- Assisted with JBS teen Junior Master Naturalist training class by providing guided hikes and volunteer supervision.
- Helped with school, scouting and homeschool classes on wetland ecology and water quality.
- Assisted with facility maintenance including but not limited to: wildscape, facility and garden maintenance, brush and plant removal along boardwalks and other trails. Most notably, assisted with the planting of 100 milkweed plants in new prairie garden and new soft surface trail.
- Led monthly bird walks.
- Helped facilitate TP&W fishing events.
- Helped with Annual Moth Night. NTMN and other Texas Master Naturalist members provided several mothing stations and documented species on iNaturalist.
- Helped staff with summer science camps by providing nature presentations and hikes.
- Host site for the NTMN DEI Workshop
