Speaker:  Benjamin Vogt,   the author of the best-selling Prairie Up: An Introduction to Natural Garden Design, as well as the impassioned A New Garden Ethic: Cultivating Defiant Compassion for an Uncertain Future. His design work has appeared in Dwell, Fine Gardening, Horticulture, Midwest Living, The New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. Benjamin manages the design firm and online educational platform Prairie Up.

Description:  One of the biggest challenges natural gardeners face is navigating outdated city weed codes and strict HOA rules. While we may understand the environmental value of native plantings, not everyone does—and the familiar look of tidy lawns still sets neighborhood expectations.

Join author and designer Benjamin Vogt for a candid talk on:
What “weediness” really means in urban and suburban settings
How to work effectively with city inspectors and HOA boards
Best practices for designing and maintaining natural gardens that look intentional and cared for

All ticket types include full access to the event—including our Open Door Ticket, part of Homegrown National Park’s effort to make our programs available to all. Choosing the Supporter or General Admission Ticket helps fund our mission to restore biodiversity.

He’ll also highlight new city and state laws that can serve as models for communities making room for nature.

Location:  Huffines Recreation Center – 200 N. Plano Rd. Richardson TX 75081
