LLELA 1st Saturday Workday
9:00 a.m. until 12 Noon
If you have been lookingfor a chance to volunteer at LLELA on the weekend, this is it.
The tasks of the LLELA 1st Saturday work crew focus on invasive species removal. Controlling invasive plants is as vital to LLELA’s restoration efforts as growing and planting native species.
The “Plant ofthe Month” may vary from privet to honeysuckle. Privet is the constant challenge. Spring could find the team pulling bastard cabbage on the dam oralong the roadside or chasing down Brazilian vervain anywhere it comes upor possibly working with some of the senior volunteers to treat Johnson grass around the property or Japanese honeysuckle along the Blackjack Trail.
Angela Lewallen, Blackland Prairie Master Naturalist and Lewisville Parks Board member, leads the effort, which is open to all Chapters.
The team will meet at 9:00 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month at the LLELA Blackjack Trial parking lot. Tell the gate attendant you are at LLELA to volunteer. Parking for the offices, classrooms, visitor center, Blackjack Trailhead, and nursery complex is located on the right-hand gravel drive just past the gate house. To get involved send an emailto Angela at an*************@***il.com.
Be prepared for work in the field. Wear sturdy shoesand dress for the weather (hot, wet, cold depending on the season); bring water, hat, and sunscreen.
