Since 1994, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day has been celebrated as a “day on, not a day off,” encouraging individuals, families, and groups across the country to honor Dr. King’s vision of community through volunteerism. By participating in MLK Day service activities, you’re not only contributing to the welfare of others but also carrying forward the principles of peace and civic engagement that Dr. King championed. DETAILS: . Volunteers will work on restoring the trout lily habitat on Cedar Brake and Trout Lily trails. Tasks will primarily include pulling the invasive privet from the work area. We’ll be using sharp shooter shovels, loppers, and uprooters to clear the area. The work is a short hike away about .5 miles there and .5 miles back. Gloves available! Bring your own favorite gloves and tools if you have them!\
Trout lilies like moist soil, but definitely need the winter sun to gather enough energy to pop up through the ground in the spring. You’ll notice that our work areas are near creeks. Good place for trout lilies and privet(unfortunately) to grow. By clearing the wall of privet, we hope to encourage more lily growth.
