A community volunteer project to help restore and conserve our urban forest. It is sponsored by Dallas Park and Recreation Department and the Dallas Urban Forest Advisory Committee. Citizen Foresters are trained in basic tree knowledge and skills, including benefits of trees, tree identification, and planting and pruning. A fee is charged for the required training class.
Volunteers participate in community education, community outreach events, and community tree planting events.

2024 Activities – 13 volunteers with 180 hours of service performed
- Helped plant 1250+ trees in 17 Dallas parks and public spaces with the Dallas Park & Recreation Branching Out program, Texas A&M Forest Service, and Trinity Blacklands Urban Forestry Council.
- Supported BranchOut Dallas program, distributing over 1,800 free trees to Dallas residents.
- Tree care activities with Saluting Branches to honor veterans at Bulova Homecoming Cemetery.
- Supported Dallas Park & Recreation grant writing to fund tree planting efforts in underserved
- Held Community Forester Academy in the fall with 25 new students attending.
