Dallas College Campus Habitats

The seven main Dallas College campuses comprise nearly 1,400 acres and there are opportunities for MN engagement on all campuses. Some examples of the activities being planned include:

Field Research – Planning, leading, or participating in data collection or analysis of natural resources where the results are intended to further scientific understanding. E.g. Citizen science, iNaturalist, eBird, water quality monitoring.

Public Outreach – leading/organizing an educational activity where the students and/or public can learn about the natural environments on campus and the TMN program

Educational Talk – providing presentations to students about native plants, animals and habitat restoration. One planned event is a Science Summer Camp.

Wildscape & Facility Maintenance – Creating and maintaining nature trails, wildscapes and interpretive areas.

Natural Resource Management – Natural resource management, restoration, rescue, and rehabilitation. E.g. Invasive species removal; plant rescue; restoring or improving natural habitat; tree planting. Some areas already identified for volunteer events include Cedar Valley’s 5.5 Environmental Area rehabilitation, Mountain View riparian area maintenance, and installation/management of a small prairie near the Windmill Garden at Brookhaven.
