The Elm Fork Nature Preserve was purchased in 1861 by the Bramblitt Family as a woodright. The land was never clear-cut and in 1986 the 40 acres were given to the city of Carrollton as a self-contained ecosystem, virtually undisturbed. The Preserve features an Interpretive Center with nature education library, which is open for scheduled classes and events. Trails are 365 days a year from dawn to dusk.

The Preserve is located one mile west of I-35E on Sandy Lake Road within the McInnish Sports Complex. Nestled within the Elm Fork Nature Preserve, the Elm Fork Nature Center was constructed in the late 1990’s. This hidden gem is a sanctuary for those seeking solace, tranquility, and an immersive connection with the natural world. The nature center serves as an educational facility for people of all ages to come together and embark on a journey of discovery. Visitors can immerse themselves in the wonders of local flora and fauna, fostering a profound appreciation for the environment and more.

Volunteers will assist with public education and outreach activities, including hosting bioblitz events and leading hikes. New chapter project in 2023.

2024 Activities – 5 volunteers with 34 hours of service performed

  • 2024 was the first year for NTMN volunteers at EFNP.  We set an initial goal of leading four nature walks and attending two City of Carrollton events to promote those walks to the community. We also created a roll and stroll walk and promoted for people with disabilities.
  • Unfortunately, inclement weather caused the cancellation of two of the nature walks, there were no attendees for the third walk or for the roll and stroll. NTMN volunteers led a Halloween nature hike with 10 attendees.  We attended two city events and staffed a booth to promote the walks and roll and stroll
