2023 Activities – 6 volunteers with 99 hours of service performed
- For the Love of the Lake is a preservation and enhancement project for White Rock Lake and the watersheds that feed it. North Texas Master Naturalists (NTMN) have regularly participated in FTLOTL for many years. Although NTMN does not have a designated shoreline, we can work in many different areas of the lake and with many different community groups. The area that I know has been worked regularly by NTMN members, is the area that is sponsored by the Dallas Sierra Club. Long-time TMN members Carol Nash and Melissa Martin (who is on the Board of FTLOTL) have worked on this for many years. It was them who encouraged me to apply to NTMN. The area that is worked, follows the perimeter of another NTMN project – The Bison Hill Blackland Prairie restoration project aka DPAR White Rock Prairie Unit 2. We work to keep styrofoam and other plastics out of the prairie. We also patrol a popular fishing area near Mockingbird Bridge along White Rock Creek. Much monofilament fishing line is collected, along with the various assorted plastics.
- This project brings value in that it improves the quality of the White Rock watershed and the White Rock Blackland prairie remnants as we promote the chapter by wearing our logo wear as we work with other groups so that NTMN is visible to the community.
