Description of the Activity (include type(s), e.g., restoration, preservation, education, monitoring, habitat, wildscape): Education in order to develop interest, and gathering of scientific of data to study population and migration patterns  of the Monarch butterfly.   Involves the tagging of Monarchs during fall migration with tags provided from Monarch Watch, then reporting used  tag ID info to Monarch Watch

How will this Activity provide outreach, education and/or service of natural resources and natural areas within our local communities? Often includes teaching groups how to tag, and presentations about tagging. When asked, a “formal” Tagging and presentation may be done at public venues: Texas Discovery Gardens, Dallas Zoo, various schools and groups

2024 Activities – 8 volunteers with 86 hours of service performed

  • Hosted 2 tagging events with good turnout. Over 800 monarchs tagged by during fall migration.
