2024 Activities – 2 volunteers with 71 hours of service performed

  • In addition to the standard volunteer opportunities at the museum, master naturalists worked during the April 8th solar eclipse. We passed out protective glasses, assisted the public in creating eclipse pins, and provided educational opportunities through the TECH truck at Perot and Klyde Warren Park during the eclipse. We attended the Audubon Texas Lights Out film screening at the Perot theater. This was a special honor and opportunity to encourage city officials and state dignitaries to use their influence to protect migrating birds. Museum activities include:
    • Children’s Museum – The Children’s Museum allows kids to explore a world on their own scale. They roam, play, and discover together while exploring an indoor nature hike, a pint-sized farmers market, a water play table, and more.
    • Challenge Lab – This maker space area features free art, engineering, and tech programs and is designed to give explorers a hands-on experience that encourages them to think like engineers.
    • Bio Lab – DNA on a Microscope, Chromatography, Electrophoresis, and anthropology can all be explored in this space with these 10 to 15-minute hands-on activities. The Bio Lab is a great place for students to explore complex biology concepts in a fun and engaging way.
    • Guest Services Support – This opportunity includes ticket scanning, crowd control, wayfinding, greeting guests in the atrium, and working in the theater.
    • TECH Truck – Volunteers support hands-on science activities as part of TECH Truck, the Perot Museum’s mobile maker space initiative. They help with two types of events: Community Science Meet-Ups and Community Events. Their responsibilities include facilitating activities and engaging with the crowd.
    • Exhibit Engagement – Volunteers work on the five floors containing 11 permanent science, math, and technology exhibits. These exhibits include plants and animals, human anatomy and physiology, health, energy, machines and electronics, the universe, Texas ecosystems, conservation, and prehistoric life.
