Previously called Canyon Creek Wetlands and Wildscape – Located at 1001 George Bush Turnpike, Richardson, TX 75080 (south of the Hilton Garden Inn), this project was approved for the chapter in 2022. Volunteers working to restore Blackland Prairie habitat, remove invasive plants, install/monitor bird boxes and plant native trees in riparian areas along Spring Creek.
2023 Activities – 12 volunteers with 232 hours of service performed
- Monthly work day with community member participation, helping to make a dent in the scabiosa/invasive removal.
- Recruited 4 scout groups and volunteers from Texas Instruments to commit to annual workdays
- Eagle scout project – built and installed 4 new wood duck nesting boxes
- Cub scout event – planted over 20 small native trees and grasses in one section of our riparian area.
- Event with the Texas Conservation alliance, planted over 700 native wildflowers and native grasses.
- Casted thousands of native seeds, harvested from Becks and Frankford Prairies
- UTD students tagged monarchs
- Sam led a group that did a pollinator bioblitz
- New “seep” that has popped out of the ground likely due to some nearby construction, has allowed seed from the wildflower and native grass seed on the slope above to take root, and some beautiful Indian grass went to seed for the very first year as a result.…so that was a win!
