Trinity River Audubon Center (TRAC)

A conservation and education facility and gateway to the Great Trinity Forest. It supports a diverse community of plant and animal species and contains a mixture of bottomland hardwoods, aquatic and wetland systems and grasslands.

Volunteers lead nature hikes, work on habitat restoration and trail development and maintenance, and assist with school groups and other education activities.

2024 Activities – 29 volunteers with 1,007 hours of service performed

• Restoring habitat through the removal of invasive species (especially Johnson Grass) and showing up in force at many of last year’s plantings, where we put hundreds of native plants in the ground.
• Helped deepen understanding of ecology and management needs through increased iNaturalist usage. Documented over 1,200 species across over 7,200 observations, doubling total number of observations.
• Helped at the front desk where they orient visitors and represent TRAC to the public.
