There are 16 units encompassing an area of 250 acres at White Rock Lake in Dallas which are remnants of Blackland prairie. The purpose of the project is to restore and preserve these natural areas for future generations and to involve the Dallas community in this effort. This is a partnership project with the Blackland chapter of Native Prairies Association of Texas (NPAT) and the Dallas Park and Recreation Department.

Volunteers monitor and manage the flora and fauna of the area. They participate in plant and other wildlife surveys, seed collection, planting, nature walks, and education of the public.

2024 Activities –   4 volunteers with 17 hours of service performed

  • Maintain multiple prairie remnants around White Rock Lake
  • Unit 7 & Unit 2 – invasive removal, collecting/dispersing native seeds, and lake cleanup
